How I have helped...

Case Study: Pregnancy & newborn care Hertfordshire

I was four months pregnant with twins when I first met Kelly. At the time, my husband and I had a two-year-old daughter and were eager to find extra support for our growing family ahead of the twins’ arrival.

When our first daughter was born, I had felt overwhelmed, anxious, lonely and isolated. I knew that this time, I wanted things to be different. I was looking for someone to support me—someone who would help me stay relaxed and well so I could be the best mum possible to my babies. I wanted a compassionate, non-judgmental presence who would understand my concerns and anxieties, guide me through the challenges of feeding—especially after finding breastfeeding emotionally difficult the first time—and simply ensure I was okay, too. More than anything, I wanted the space and support to really enjoy motherhood this time around. Kelly turned out to be exactly that person.

Our twins arrived early, at 33 weeks and spent three weeks in the NICU being tube fed. During that difficult period, Kelly stayed in close contact—checking in regularly, helping me establish a pumping schedule and sharing techniques to help me relax. One particularly tough evening, she came to sit with me at home when my anxiety about bringing the twins home hit hard. She listened, comforted me and reassured me that I was not alone.

Once we brought the babies home, Kelly joined us soon after. She worked side-by-side with my husband and I —feeding, sterilising, winding, changing, playing and settling whilst making sure our older daughter still had all the time and attention she needed. Kelly always made sure I was eating, staying hydrated and resting whenever possible.

Her support with breastfeeding was especially invaluable. With her encouragement and knowledge, I was able to exclusively breastfeed both twins—an experience that gave me a deep sense of connection and pride, and one I would not have achieved on my own.

In those early days, just knowing Kelly was coming brought a huge sense of relief. Even after sleepless nights, I could get through the early mornings because I knew help was on the way and I’d find myself counting down the hours.

I believe so strongly that mothers deserve meaningful support after having a baby. Reaching out for help this time changed everything. My experience of early motherhood was transformed. Today, I’m a more confident, relaxed and happy mum to three beautiful children—and I have Kelly to thank for being such a vital part of that journey.

We reached out to Kelly when we were really struggling. Our son was 10 weeks old and there were concerns surrounding his faltering weight.  I was breastfeeding and expressing around the clock and no matter what we did, we just couldn’t settle him without holding him and we were completely exhausted.

Kelly came to our house the very next day. She took the time to fully understand what we’d been through, familiarised herself with his feeding plan and asked us to prioritise the help we felt we needed.  From that moment, she stepped in and began caring for us all.

Her calm, expert knowledge and genuine kindness were exactly what we needed. Kelly supported me with my breastfeeding goals, and over time, our son's weight improved significantly. I was eventually able to stop supplementing with pumping and bottle feeding. She also showed us how to recognise when our son was getting tired, taught us countless ways to settle him and advised us on how to structure our day around feeds and naps.

As well as taking care of our son, Kelly took care of my husband and I too—making sure we had food and rest and she kept the house running while we finally got a chance to catch our breath. Her empathy, sensitivity and understanding of the difficult start we had really helped me rebuild my confidence and move forward.
